I'm an independent learning/instructional designer with a strong history of designing and facilitating both online and face-to-face courses. I work across sectors with a wide range of clients; everyone from post-secondary institutions to corporations to healthcare environments to non-profit organizations and entrepreneurs.
I've been a learning designer since 2005 and have a Master of Education with a focus in Adult Education (University of British Columbia). I also have "logged" many more hours of formal and informal learning on education-based topics around learning design and facilitation/teaching.
I've been fortunate for many years to have been heavily involved in both the design and facilitation of the Facilitating Learning Online (FLO) courses. I was the designer of FLO Synchronous, have facilitated FLO Fundamentals approximately a dozen times, and have facilitated FLO Design and FLO MicroCourses several times each. I am a co-author of the FLO Facilitation Guide, an open educational resource that is meant to support institutions to offer the FLO courses. Additionally, I am a qualified Instructor and Trainer of the Instructional Skills Workshop.
I am a strong user of Liberating Structures and co-steward (with Tracy Roberts of BCcampus) the Victoria Liberating Structures User Group here in Victoria, and she and I regularly co-facilitate LS immersion workshops at Royal Roads University.
All these credentials aside, I think one of my "superpowers" is taking complex and often academic concepts in the field of education and distilling it into practical, useful advice to help you advance your practice. Plus, I'm pretty fun to work with! I look forward to working with you.
Lastly, if you'd like to ask me about creating or facilitating a custom online or face-to-face course for you, please visit the links in the left footer below to pop over to my website to learn more.
